Climate

Some places have different kinds of weather.

Climate is how weather is over a long time.

Some places have seasons that show a lot of change.

Some places have weather that stays the same all year round.

Mountains are very high.  This can make it cold more of the year. Some places are near the ocean.

Why are There Seasons?

How the Sun makes Seasons

Why do we have seasons?

This is very interesting!

Planets go around the Sun!

The Sun gives us heat and light!

The Earth takes 365 days to go around the Sun.

The Earth is tilted.

Part of the Earth gets more sunlight part of the year.

Part of the Earth gets less sunlight part of the year.

When a part of the Earth gets less sunlight it is colder in that part.  This makes winter.

When a part of the Earth gets more sunlight it is colder in that part.  This makes summer!

When part of the Earth starts getting more sunlight it gets warmer.  This is spring!

When part of the Earth starts getting less sunlight it gets colder.  This is autumn.

The middle of the Earth is called the Equator.

This part of the Earth always gets about the same amount if sunlight.  The weather does not change a lot in this part, even when the season changes.  It is usually warm near the equator!
