The Inside of the Earth

The middle of the Earth is called the Earth’s core.

The core is made of metal.

There is an inner core.

There is an outer core.

Cars, jewelry, and coins are made of metal.

Very hot metal melts.

The inner core is made of hard metal.

The outer core is made of soft melted, metal.

The core is very, very hot.

Around the core is the mantle.

The mantle is made of very hot rock.

The hot rock is called magma.

Some magma is soft and can move.

Outside the mantle is the Earth’s crust.

The crust is all around the Earth.

The crust is made of rock.

The crust is broken into many pieces.

It is like a big puzzle.

The pieces are called tectonic plates.

The line where a tectonic plate is broken is called a fault.

Sometimes the tectonic plates move.

This is called an earthquake.
