Things can become different.  This is called to change.

Different means to not be the same.

The Earth is where we live.  The Earth is very, very big.  The Earth is made of rock.  The Earth is in space.  The inside of the Earth has layers.  The inside is made of rock and metal.

Things can change.  Change means to become different.

The Earth has a crust.  The Earth’s crust is made of rock.  The Earth’s crust is in very big pieces.  Where the pieces meet is called a fault.  Sometimes the pieces of rock. move. They push against each other at the fault.  This makes an earthquake.  An earthquake makes things shake. 

The surface of the Earth is called the Earth’s crust.  The Earth’s crust is made of rock.

The Earth’s crust is made of rock.  The rock is in big pieces.  These pieces of rock are called tectonic plates.  When the tectonic plates move a lot, it is called an earthquake.

Water can break off tiny pieces of mountains and canyons.  This makes sediment.  Sediment can move down rivers.  Sediment can be pressed together to make new rock.

A fault is where two tectonic plates meet.  It is a break in the Earth’s crust.  When a tectonic plate moves it can make an earthquake at the fault line.

A mountain is very big and tall.  A mountain is made when the Earth’s crust pushes together over millions of years.   

A canyon and mountain can be made smaller by rain, ice, and rivers pushing against it.  This is called erosion.

Magma is hot melted rock.  magma is inside of the Earth’s surface.
