A plant is a living thing.  Plants have roots, a stem, and leaves.

The root is the bottom part of a plant.  The root is in the ground.  The root takes in water and nutrients from the soil.  Nutrients are food for the plant.

The stem is the middle part of a plant.  The stem connects the root to the leaves.  The stem carries water and nutrients from the root to the stem.

A leaf is part of a plant.  A leaf can be different shapes.  A leaf is flat.  The leaf gets energy from the sun.  

More than one leaf are called leaves.

Some plants have flowers.  Flowers have petals.  Flowers can be colorful.  Some flowers can make fruit.  Bees and other insects eat from flowers.  Flowers help to make new plants.

A seed is part of a plant.  Inside a seed is everything needed to make a new plant.
