Animals go through a cycle from being born to being an adult.  This is called the life cycle.

Some animals body change a lot when they grow.  A butterfly starts as a caterpillar.  The caterpillar becomes a butterfly.  A frog starts as an egg and then a tadpole.  A tadpole becomes a frog.  This is called metamorphosis!

An egg has everything inside of it to make a new animals.  Fish, birds, and reptiles lay eggs.  The eggs hatch and a new animal grows.  Many animals use eggs to create new animals!

A caterpillar is a young butterfly.  A caterpillar is long and thin. A caterpillar can change itself into a butterfly.

A caterpillar wraps itself up into a cocoon.  Inside the cocoon the caterpillar changes into a butterfly.  The caterpillar in its cocoon is called a chrysalis.
